You Don’t Have to Live with Acne Scars: IconTM Acne Scar Treatment Can Help

Acne Scars, Icon™ laser treatment, treatment for acne scars

If you have an uneven skin tone or texture because of scarring left behind by acne, it can make you feel self-conscious and can affect your confidence.

Acne is a common skin complaint it affects 50 to 60 million Americans at any one time. You can experience acne at any age, but it’s most common in teenagers and young adults because that’s when a surge of new hormones produces oily skin.

Oil, bacteria, debris from dead skin cells, and dirt create characteristic pimples (whiteheads or blackheads) by blocking the skin’s pores, which then become inflamed. Acne usually appears on the face, neck, chest, and back areas that are highly visible, and so can lead to embarrassment.

When acne heals, the signs of it can often linger in the form of scars. Even though your acne may have cleared up years ago, the damage to your skin remains, and this can affect your confidence and self-image. No lotions or potions will significantly improve the appearance of acne scarring, and even makeup can only go so far to improve your complexion’s appearance. Plus, when makeup washes off, the scars that lie beneath it are still there.

At Best Care Clinic in Clarksville, Tennessee, Dr. Denise Tittle has the technology to restore your complexion to a fresh, healthy, and smooth look. Icon™ laser treatment can help turn back the clock on acne scarring and leave your skin looking smoother and healthier after just 3-7 treatments.

Types of acne scarring

Icon laser treatment can improve the appearance of all types of acne scarring. You may complain of an uneven, pockmarked complexion or discoloration of your skin tone or a mix of the two problems. There are three types of acne scars that can contribute to this appearance:

  1. Scarring that’s a darker shade than your natural skin tone this is called post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. The acne inflammation stimulates your skin to make more melanin, which is what gives skin its color. The more melanin, the darker the skin.
  2. Scarring that appears as red or purple spots. This is called post-inflammatory erythema and is caused by the acne making blood vessels close to the skin’s surface expand.
  3. Pockmarks, or recessed scars are scars that occur when inflammatory acne destroys the skin cells. This is called atrophic scarring and is what causes the uneven skin texture that can be visible even through makeup.

Icon acne scar treatment is suitable for all types of acne scarring

No matter what type of scarring you have, or what your skin tone or type is like, laser treatment can help you improve your skin’s texture and appearance.

Dr. Tittle uses the Icon 1540 powerhouse laser the only FDA-approved laser for treating acne scarring. Because your skin and your scars are as individual as you are, the multiple microlenses mean Dr. Tittle can tailor your treatment exactly to your skin type and needs. Optimizing your treatment this way means the laser only needs to penetrate as deep as is required to treat your scars, minimizing any trauma.

The result of this non-invasive treatment is improved skin tone, a smoother complexion, and restored confidence with minimal downtime.

What’s involved in the procedure?

Dr. Tittle assesses your skin and acne scarring to decide how deep the treatment should penetrate. She then uses the non-ablative laser tool to target scar tissue and break down the cells using concentrated light energy.

This process then gently stimulates your body to produce collagen and begin the healing process on its own.

Most patients report that the treatment is painless, and they feel only gentle warmth. In very sensitive areas, or for people with particularly sensitive skin, it may be necessary to use a topical anesthetic to make the treatment more comfortable.

Depending on the size of the area to be targeted, your treatment should take around half an hour. Aside from a little redness and swelling, you should suffer no after effects, and there’s no need for any downtime you can get right back to your daily activities. The only adjustment you will need to make is to avoid UV exposure for a few days following treatment.

If your acne scars bother you, schedule an appointment with Dr. Tittle to start your journey to discovering the smoother, more even complexion you desire. Book a consultation using our online service, or call the office in Clarksville, Tennessee.
